Build Now: Do you know someone who could use their help?

Build Now: Do you know someone who could use their help?

I was recently contacted by non-profit Build Now. They’re trying to reach people who still need help rebuilding after Katrina. I’ve posted the information they sent me in this blog. You can find out more about them at www.buildnownola.com.

Build Now is a local New Orleans non-profit that was founded in early 2008. We work with New Orleans residents to overcome the obstacles keeping them from rebuilding on their hurricane damaged lots in New Orleans. We help property owners with everything from choosing a floor plan to finding financing. Then we build a new, elevated home on their lot. We moved our first family back home in January. Over the past year, the Build Now team of housing counselors has helped more than a dozen New Orleans families on their journey back home – 3 families have moved in and we have several more homes currently under construction. Every Build Now homeowner has expressed the utmost gratitude for the organization and its dedication to bringing New Orleanians back home.

Since every family faces different challenges while moving through the rebuilding process, our team of expert advisors work with our clients to overcome whatever obstacles may be preventing them from rebuilding. In the past, we’ve helped clients with numerous issues including:

  • Navigating the Road Home appeals process
  • Applying for ICC and HMGP elevation funding
  • Determining mortgage eligibility
  • Obtaining credit counseling services
  • Applying for zoning variances
  • Obtaining building permits

Build Now also hosts monthly informational events, free of charge, to provide New Orleans residents with the information they need to rebuild their homes and their neighborhoods. This has helped for us to provide guidance to dozens of other families.
