“Jesus the Nazarene practised magic”
An interesting note about the miracles of Jesus. The early Jewish texts about Jesus do not deny His miraculous powers. They instead attribute them to sorcery. Written within 200 years of Christ, the Babylonian Talmud Sanhedrin 107b codified what was often taught about Jesus by the Jews. It stated “Jesus the Nazarene practised magic and led Israel astray.”
You can see this at this web site. http://www.come-and-hear.com/sanhedrin/sanhedrin_107.html#107b_17. However, the section regarding Jesus has been edited out. You have to look to footnote 17 where it says “The uncensored edition continues.”
This leads us to the question, when people demand proof for faith in Christ, are they genuinely searching for truth or using a rhetorical escape to cover the fact that they would prefer that Christ not be Who He claimed to be?
May God continue to bless genuine searches for truth by leading honest seekers to life in Christ.
